Langtang
Langtang region is one of the nearest trekking region from Kathmandu valley offering quick and easy access. This region lies in the central north part of Nepal and well known for its amazing trekking routes and pure natural environment. It is listed as the third popular trekking region of Nepal after the Everest and the Annapurna. Langtang region offers spectacular views of the Himalayan ranges, diverse flora, fauna and experience of the Tibetan Buddhist culture.
Langtang region lies in Langtang National Park, which was established in 1976. Langtang National Park is the first Himalayan national park of Nepal and the fourth protected area covering an area of 1710 km2 in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk district. Bhote Koshi flows on the eastern side and Trishuli River on the western boundaries of the region.
Langtang region is widely known for its diverse flora and fauna. Trekkers who hike around this region may get an insight of the endangered Red Panda. Other various wild animals like Himalayan Black Bear, Musk Deer, Himalayan Tahr, Ghoral, Snow leopard can be seen. Diverse ranges of vegetation ranging from oak, maple, rhododendron, pine and alpine pine, rugged mountain terrain can be experienced in the area. Beautiful villages of Tamang and Lama Tribes can be seen in the area with their own attire and culture. They normally follow Tibetan Buddhism and communicate in Tibetan language. There people worship Langtang Lirung as their local mountain god.
Langtang valley trek is one of the most popular treks in the region. This valley offers amazing view of the north central mountain and the Himalayan lifestyle of the locals. Langtang valley is also believed to be a hidden valley blessed by Guru Padmasambhava. Another amazing trek of the region is Gosaikunda Trek, also known as the frozen lake trek. This place has its own cultural importance in the Hindu mythology and beliefs. Other shorts treks like Tamang Heritage trek and Helambu trek also lies in the area.
In April 2015, Langtang village of Langtang valley was heavily damaged by an avalanche of rock, mud and ice killing more than 200; locals and foreigners.
